Monarch was engaged by Villaggio Sant’ Antonio to construct the new wing at their Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) located in Page, Canberra. The new RACF wing is located centrally within the site, connecting from the existing RACF building via an extension that includes a large activities room, outdoor seating area, and separate dedicated craft room.

The new wing comprises 29 bedrooms, each with an ensuite and outdoor courtyard space; central lounge area; a number of smaller seating areas and circulation spaces; dedicated storage zones; pan room; and new communications room.

Monarch ensured the new RACF wing is a seamless extension to the existing facility by connecting new fire, hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, communications, security, and nurse call services to the existing services of the facility.

A significant amount of landscaping surrounds the new wing including footpaths, stairs, retaining walls, lighting, plants, and pergolas.

During the review of the construction design, Monarch identified that time and cost savings could be achieved by changing the construction frame materials from a combination of timber frames, trusses and structural steel, to a lightweight steel framing system instead. This value management suggestion was endorsed by the client, providing them with cost savings and enabled Monarch to complete the project in a shorter program.

Despite the increased challenges from working in an aged care facility during Covid-19 restrictions, Monarch successfully completed project handover two months ahead of an already tight timeframe; completing the project in just seven months.
