The Former Transport Depot is a heritage listed building within the Kingston Arts precinct that sustained extensive roof damage during a large hailstorm.

Monarch were engaged to complete the design and provision of emergency repairs and upgrades including:

  • passive fire protection to bring the building in-line with current fire compliance requirements,

  • new electrical system and lighting throughout the building to replace the aging infrastructure,

  • new roof and drainage system to improve functionality and longevity of new internal assets,

  • demolition and removal of decommissioned and redundant service infrastructure, and

  • provision of new public use bathrooms to meet modern accessibility requirements.

A significant issue experienced during construction was the dentification of lead dust and paint found throughout the building. Monarch worked collaboratively with the client to design and implement a hazardous material remediation program. The project team successfully managed the continually changing project program and budget constraints in order to obtain a lead dust clearance prior to handover.
